What is Process art for kids?

…and why is it important for us?

Process art is an approach to art-making that emphasizes the creative process rather than the final product. It allows children to explore materials and techniques, and to express themselves in a free and open way. Here are some benefits of process art for kids:

#1 - Development of creativity and imagination:

Process art encourages children to think freely, experiment with different materials and techniques, and create their own unique artwork.

#2 - Improved fine motor skills:

Manipulating and working with different art materials can help children develop and improve their fine motor skills.

“Creativity seems to emerge from multiple experiences, coupled with a well-supported development of personal resources, including a sense of freedom to venture beyond the known.” ~ Loris Malaguzzi

#3 - Increased self-esteem and self-expression:

By creating their own artwork, children learn to express themselves and develop a sense of pride in their creations.

#4 - Emotional and social growth:

Process art can help children to explore and express their feelings, and develop social and emotional skills through collaboration and sharing of ideas.

#5 -Development of cognitive skills:

Participating in process art can also help children develop their cognitive skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, and concentration.

#6 -Understanding of art concepts:

The process of art making, such as using colours and mixing of colours, texturizing, layering etc can give children intuitive understanding of art concepts which can be useful later on.

It's good to remember that process art is not about creating a perfect masterpiece but about giving children the freedom to explore and experiment with materials and to create something unique and personal.
